Gestern erst habe ich von der Kölner Presse gehört: ein Buch, das sich selbst datiert. 26. Juli 1474 — nicht geschätzt, nicht erraten, nicht vom Mönch nachträglich in die Lücke gekritzelt. Fest wie ein Nagel im Holz. Ich sitze in meiner Werkstatt und rieche noch die Tinte an den Fingern. Seit zwanzig Jahren drucke ich, und jetzt erst wagt einer meiner Nachfolger, das Datum festzulegen — als wäre das gedruckte Wort selbst der Kalender geworden. Ein kleiner Akt, aber er verändert, wie wir die Zeit festhalten. Nicht mehr fließend wie Pergament, sondern starr wie Blei. Mein Schreiber meckert: "Wer braucht schon ein festes Datum?"
